The Ultimate Fourth, a Bronx-based fitness gym specializing in boxing and circuit training, sought to expand their facilities while facing financial constraints. Tirso Lighting was approached to design a lighting solution that would maximize coverage and create an engaging atmosphere within a tight budget.
The client needed a solution that would support the gym’s dynamic class environment and highlight specific areas, such as the trainer’s zone, without incurring excessive costs.
Behind the Scenes
The installation phase was a ballet of coordination, with our team working closely with on-site contractors to bring the pre-assembled structures into the gym space. The challenge of integrating these structures into the existing environment required not just technical skill but also a deep understanding of the space’s aesthetic and functional needs. The process of hoisting and securing the lighting fixtures, while ensuring they were perfectly aligned and evenly spaced, showcased the team’s attention to detail and commitment to precision.
MADRIX SYSTEM
The entire lighting system is controlled by Madrix software, renowned for its versatility and ease of use. This software enables intricate lighting effects and synchronization, essential for creating an adaptable and immersive workout environment. The inclusion of Madrix hardware, specifically the Luna 4, ensures seamless signal processing and distribution to the light fixtures, illustrating our dedication to utilizing top-tier technology solutions.
Pre-Assembly Approach
A pivotal moment in the project was the decision to pre-mount lighting fixtures onto aluminum structures. This approach stemmed from an intent to streamline the installation process, acknowledging that traditional methods would not only be time-consuming but also cost-prohibitive.
Fabricating these structures off-site and assembling them with all necessary components allowed for a swift and efficient installation process, significantly reducing labor hours and ensuring that the project remained within budget.
Solutions
Linear LED Lighting: Provided broad coverage, essential for the gym’s spacious layout.
PAR Washlights: Focused on the trainer’s area, these lights from American DJ were chosen for their ability to create a well-lit instructional space.
RGB LED Ribbon Lights: Installed over a wall of mirrors, these lights offered an ambient glow, enhancing the gym’s aesthetic appeal.
A key innovation was the assembly method; lighting fixtures were pre-mounted on aluminum structures at ground level and then raised into position. This approach simplified the installation process, significantly reducing labor hours and costs.
The Outcome
The lighting design not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations within the constraints of a limited budget. The use of LED pixel bars, combined with the strategic installation technique, allowed for a visually impressive, reliable lighting system that has operated flawlessly since its implementation. The Ultimate Fourth now benefits from a versatile, engaging environment that enhances the workout experience.
